Background

The North Carolina Department of Commerce created the County Distress Ranking Tiers in order to rank counties economic status based on Average Unemployment, Median Household Income, Percentage growth in population, as well as Adjusted property tax base per capita. These are set on a tier system with 1 being the worst and 3 being the best.

Onslow County is currently designated as a Tier 1 County

My Plan To Fix It

When elected, I have a clear vision for how we can bring Onslow County to Tier 3 status. Firstly I would like to use my connections at East Carolina University to bring another coastal research facility to Onslow County. I also plan to work to lower your property taxes, and bring high paying jobs to Onslow County. Currently 2/3 of the revenue generated from tourism taxes is required by statute to be used for advertising, I intend on working to lower this amount so that money can be used to bolster the local economy, which would in turn provide a boost to tourism.
